Cold weather payment and winter heating payment
You may get a cold weather payment in England, Northern Ireland and Wales, or winter heating payment in Scotland, if you’re getting certain benefits.
Winter fuel payment, pension age winter heating payment and child winter heating payment
If you live in England, Northern Ireland or Wales, have reached pension age in the 'qualifying week' and receive a qualifying benefit (such as pension credit), your household could get £200 or £300 to help towards your heating bills. This is the winter fuel payment. For the winter of 2025/26, the qualifying week begins on the 15 September 2025.
If you live in Scotland, there is a similar pension age winter heating payment. For the winter of 2025/26, a lower payment of this (of around £100) is also available to Scottish pensioner households where no-one is entitled to a qualifying benefit.
If you live in Scotland and have a disabled child, you may be eligible for a child winter heating payment.
Warm Home Discount scheme
In England, Scotland and Wales, you could get £150 off your electricity bill through the Warm Home Discount scheme. The scheme is currently closed, and will reopen in October 2025.
