News Being Active
The benefits system and other forms of government and NHS financial help are designed to enable Disabled people to be active in all aspects of their lives.
However, evidence suggests that Disabled people fear losing such support as a result of being seen to be active.

Durham University are conducting research to understand the impact of benefits and finances on Disabled people’s physical activity levels. We also want to find out more about the Activity Trap

The Activity Trap is a fear Disabled people have about appearing to be physically active, and the impact this will have upon the benefits and financial assistance they are entitled to.

The aim of our research is to gain a deeper understanding of the prevalence of this problem, and peoples’ experiences of the Activity Trap.

This project is funded by Disability Rights UK and co-produced by Disabled people and relevant others and organisations who have lived experience of the benefit system and the Activity Trap.

We would like to invite you to take part in the project.

The project is open to any Disabled people (and their parents or carers) who have applied for benefits and involves completing this questionnaire.

The questionnaire will take 5-10 minutes to answer. Questions include personal information as well as your experiences of the benefits application process and physical activity.

The first page of the questionnaire provides more information about the project.

If you would like to discuss the project in any more detail, please get in touch with the lead researcher Toni Williams via Toni.Williams@durham.ac.uk

Thank you for reading this and considering taking part in this project.
