The Board Awards is a not-for-profit awards ceremony that celebrates the progress in diversity made on Boards so far and how more inclusion at leadership level can positively impact the communities we serve.
The Rising Star award Katrina has been shortlisted for celebrates the people on a journey to make the biggest impact through their work in inclusion and belonging – something we can safely say Katrina has been doing with us at Disability Rights UK, where she has been working for nearly 10 years.
In addition to this, Katrina has actively sat on Trustee boards for many years, working with Leadership and Inclusion programmes for marginalised young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Beyond this she has worked in many areas of inclusion, from The Children’s Society (NEET young people), as a Senior Youth Practitioner and as a Project Manager for Age Concern and other BAME organisations that strive to improve the inclusion of their users, within the wider society.
Katrina also leads a team of entrepreneurs to achieve their goals and aspirations, mentoring and supporting them to manage successful small businesses - and was nominated by one of the team for the award.
In Katrina’s own words, ‘I feel very honoured to be shortlisted for the Award and I am pleased that in my own small way, I have been able to contribute to further the drive towards greater equality, diversity, and Inclusion. Furthermore, in my last nearly 10 years being a part of Disability Rights UK, I have been able to really support employees with lived experience of disabilities and their employers, to impact the workplace culture and this continues to be a privilege.’
‘Fingers crossed for Friday, but I am super excited to be seated alongside so many others, who are paving the way for change!’
The award ceremony will take place at County Hall on Friday 19th May and we wish her the best of luck! It is great to see a member of our team get the recognition they deserve for such important work.
