Prepared to Care? Report shows carers are being woefully let down by a lack of support when they first take on a caring role.

In preparation for this year’s Carers Week, a group of charities set out to explore how much, as society, we are Prepared to Care? Through an online survey, the UK’s carers were asked to share the impact that caring had had on their lives and their experiences of gaining support from professionals and services.

The majority of carers were unprepared for:

  • the emotional impact of caring. .
  • changes to their lifestyle because of their caring role.
  • the change in relationship with the person they care for.
  • the impact caring had on their career.
  • the financial impact of their caring role.
