54,665 ESA sanctions since 2012

Jobseeker’s Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance sanctions: decisions made to September 2014

The latest Government figures on sanctions show that, since December 2012 the DWP has issued 54,665 sanctions to ESA recipients. The majority of these were for failure to participate in work related activity (45,762 ) with 8,905 sanctioned for failure to attend a mandatory interview.

 Of these 18,087 were overturned by review, mandatory reconsideration or on appeal.
