Fred Walden, was banned from a dance event because it was claimed his wheelchair damaged the dance floor.
The event was the Britroc Modern Jive competition, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel Heathrow on 24th October 2015
Disability Rights UK CEO Liz Sayce says:
“Disabled people rightly expect to take part in dancing, sport and any other activity that people enjoy.
It's in the interests of companies to welcome everyone and be inclusive.
If companies have any blanket policies - like no wheelchair users to dance on a particular floor, or no disabled children to go on a fairground ride (and many other examples that we see) we urge them to look for solutions that enable disabled people to take part. Blanket bans can be illegal under the Equality Act.”
