Kate joined DR UK in October as Peer Support Lead for Get Out Get Active (GOGA) an exciting new programme that supports disabled and non-disabled people to enjoy being active together.
Get Out Get Active is funded by Spirit of 2012 within 18 areas across the UK, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. Disability Rights UK is a National Partner. Over three years it aims to get 160,000 people more active.
Kate will be working with Disabled People’s Organisations and local sport and fitness organisations and providers to get people moving and enjoying fun activities - not just sport. She will be finding and training disabled and non-disabled people, from local communities, to become mentors.
These mentors will support ‘mentees’ who want to be more active, but who might be experiencing barriers such as low confidence or just don’t know where to go to find inclusive activities.
In Years Two and Three she will be moving to work nationally to share her experience about what works in mentoring and peer support and give examples of best practice.
