Last week our champion for Liverpool Hannah Ross spoke at a well-attended panel in at the University of Oxford as part of the 42 Bedford Row Disability Law Essay Prize-Giving Ceremony.

Hannah presented ‘the long-term goals of the I Can Make It campaign and how they fit in with the government’s promises to halve to employment gap over the five-year period’. She “valued hearing the opinions of law professionals and academics, who had experience dealing with companies and individuals, both of whom had the rights of disabled workers in mind”. We’d like to extend our congratulations to those who received prizes at the ceremony, and are glad that it was a success.

Meanwhile some exquisitely crafted invitations, designed by Kathryn Woodhead one of our champions for Manchester will be making their way out to partners for ICMI Exchange (ICMI-EX) our event on 27th March. However prior to that we’ll be having meetings with Leeds City Council and the deputy mayor of Leicester, as well as an induction day for some of our new champions at our offices, including our second champion for Leeds, Clessia Walker who was recruited on Thursday.

Also following on from our trip to the Procurement Think Tank with Charlotte White on the 30th of January, a report of the meeting with videos of the presentations and discussions can be found here

So all in all a lot more activity across England for the campaign there’s still more to come particularly with meetings with Leeds, Wakefield, Knowsley, Kirklees and Leicester City Councils in the near future. Which is why we’re looking for more champions to join us!

So if you are 18-29, have a disability or health condition and live in Manchester, Norfolk and Wakefield or any of our other target areas and want to help to improve the career prospects of yourself and other young disabled people, then please get in touch with us on 0207 250 8193 or via leo.capella@disabilityrightsuk.org
