Transport and Isolation

As we have always insisted, transport-related social exclusion has been found to disproportionately affect Disabled people and those with long-term health conditions, and to particularly occur in areas with low incomes and high car-dependency.

Now, recently published research admits that many people live in areas where there is a risk of social exclusion which they defined as "being unable to access opportunities, key services and community life" as a result of limitations in provision of accessible bus and rail transport.

Stephen Brookes,  Transport Policy Adviser at DR UK says ‘challenging transport-based isolation must be a government priority in any changes and legislation relating to bus and rail services’.
