At Disability Rights UK, we have taken time to reflect on August's heightened events of far-right violence and in doing so, it would be remiss not to publicly condemn the role different social media platforms played in collaborating and fortifying extremist views and actions.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, weaponises the platform to further amplify far-right viewpoints. Whilst we are committed to preventing this platform becoming solely an echo chamber for such vitriol, it would be negligent to not acknowledge the landscape within which this account is situated.
We will continue to use this platform in an effort to both combat these narratives and ensure the right support and guidance is available to the millions of Disabled people who find community and advice online. However, we could not continue without acknowledging the role of this platform in the increase in far-right violence. As an organisation, we stand unequivocally against this and will do everything in our power to combat it.
We also encourage people to follow our news on platforms aside from X, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Bluesky as we continue to look into alternatives. Solidarity with all those fighting on the streets, online, and in our communities to combat both insipid and overt forms of fascism.
