Background

For the past two years, the DPO Capacity Building Project, delivered by Disability Rights UK (DR UK) and funded by the Legal Education Fund, has been dedicated to developing and empowering the Disabled People's Organisations (DPO) sector.

We have accomplished a great deal during this period. We have drafted three comprehensive research reports on the sector and continue to lead research in intersectional practice. We have provided targeted training and coproduced valuable resources, such as the DPO Support Hub. We’ve fostered meaningful connections and the intersectional DPO Forum. Additionally, we have supported national policy campaigns, such as the Disabled Peoples Manifesto, launched promotional campaigns for the sector, and collaborated with funders to fund led by and for organisations.

As we reach this pivotal point, it's time to look forward and plan the next steps of our journey. We believe that the insights and ideas of those within the DPO sector are crucial for shaping our future direction.

We invite DPOs, Disabled people-led groups, and staff members and volunteers of DPOs, both outside and including the project steering board, to share their thoughts and suggestions.
