Leading Disability Rights Organisations Demand Answers From Secretary of State
News
Twenty-one of England's Disabled People's Organisations have signed an open letter alongside Amnesty International, the world's leading human rights organisation, to demand answers to their serious concerns with the human rights implications of the 'Pathways to Work' Consultation.
Writing on behalf of the DPO Forum England, which represents a broad network of Disabled People's Organisations across the country, the letter condemns the consultation process, claiming it is "like a sham" that removes Disabled people's rights to take part in civic society.
Signatories to the letter identify three key areas of human rights violation:
- Limitation on the extent to which some changes are within scope for the consultation.
- Failure to quickly publish easy read and other accessible version of the proposals in the green paper.
- Failure to publish adequate impact assessments alongside proposals.
