The Disability Employment Charter outlines nine key recommendations for the government to address the disadvantage Disabled people encounter in our working lives. These recommendations include reforming schemes like Access to Work and improving advice services. Although the Charter calls for the Government to implement these recommendations to tackle the disability employment gap, organisations are also encouraged to be a signatory of the Charter. The Charter has now reached over 80 signatories.
One of the Charter recommendations is mandatory employment and pay gap reporting for employers with over 250 employees. The Government is currently holding a consultation on this issue, which is due to close on 25 March. Disability Rights UK is currently drafting a response with other Disabled People’s Organisations.
