At the end of April, one hundred parliamentarians signed  a letter to the PM written by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Disability chaired by Lisa Cameron MP, expressing serious concerns about the treatment of disabled people during the coronavirus crisis and asking for greater equality and inclusion. The Prime Minister has now replied, setting out the action government took and promising change through the proposed Disability Strategy.

Fazilet Hadi, Head of Policy at DR UK said” We take issue with the Prime Minister’s description of government action during the coronavirus crisis. From our perspective, information wasn’t made sufficiently accessible, social care wasn’t prioritised and  getting food was enormously difficult”

“In terms of recovery planning, we need government announcements, such as those already made on new build housing and employment schemes, to include  and benefit disabled people.”

We welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment to ensuring the proposed Disability Strategy is ambitious and far reaching, truly including disabled people in society. It is imperative that  the experiences and views of disabled people shape this Strategy.”’
