From today (1 November 2019), the Office for Disability Issues (ODI) has moved from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to become a new Disability Unit which will join the Race Disparities Unit in a new Equalities Hub based in the Cabinet Office.

The move, announced by the Prime Minister in June of this year, is designed to 'bring the voices of disabled people into the heart of Government, by working closely with disabled people, disabled people’s organisations and charities, to develop a new approach to disability, with their views and experiences at the forefront of any new policy.'

Sue Bott, Deputy Chief Executive of DRUK said: "We welcome this move. It’s always been difficult to see how joined up government on disability issues could be achieved from the DWP."

The Minister for Disabled People, Work and Health, Justin Tomlinson MP, will remain within the DWP.
