Four organisations working in the UK have been awarded a ‘Challenge Fund’ grant to create opportunities for disabled people in arts and cultural activities

Three organisations, Beacon Hill Arts, Oasis Children’s Venture and ARC Stockton, have received full grants to deliver up to three years of arts based activity to increase participation amongst disabled people in their areas. Streetwise Community Circus, in Northern Ireland, has been awarded a development grant to create a full proposal with similar impact.

The Spirit of Achievement Challenge Fund opened for applications in February this year and received a total of 225 applications from all over the UK. Today, Spirit of 2012 has announced the 4 organisations selected. The Spirit of Achievement Programme: one of Spirit of 2012’s flagship initiatives aims to build on the success of the London 2012 Paralympic Games in challenging perceptions of disability (including self-perceptions) and empowering disabled people to participate more fully in their communities.

Our CEO, Liz Sayce, was on the judging committee.
