Why cap beneficial Access to Work?

Steve McCabe MP has challenged government on the rationale for capping Access to Work without assessing the economic benefit – since when disabled people are able to work through Access to Work, this creates savings through taxes paid and lesser need for benefits

The Government’s welcome plan to halve the disability employment gap means that policies right across government – from Access to Work (as Mr McCabe points out)  to Disabled Students’ Allowance, from accessible transport to effective health and social care – need to support that ambition.

For DR UK the test of policy is whether it supports disabled people’s independence and employment opportunities. Doing so benefits individuals living with disability or health conditions, their children and families overall, and the tax payer.
