Countdown to reversing the Disabled Students Allowance cut

Regulations have been laid in parliament that will have the effect of transferring support for many disabled students from an allowance following an assessment confirming eligibility and need to an expectation that the higher education institutions will provide that support under their obligations to provide reasonable adjustments.

Universities will not receive any additional money to meet theses expectations. It will have the same effect as a cut.

The attached briefing illustrates why we want disabled people and those who share their aspirations to contact their MPs and ask them to vote against these regulations so that the regulations can be debated in parliament.

We expect there to be a debate in the new year. When we know the date we will publish the details on our website. Once the date is known please contact your MP to ask him or her to attend, speak and vote on this important issue.
