Habinteg to host housing standards forum on the future of accessible homes

Habinteg are calling for the views of the sector at an influential forum of industry experts exploring Government changes to housing’s accessibility standards.

With the Government’s review of technical housing standards expected to publish new proposals for consultation including a three-tier system for accessibility, Habinteg’s forum event will explore the plans in detail and outline what this will mean for the future of housing.

The Homes for living forum event, “Accessibility and the new housing standard” will take place in London on 16 July 2013 from 12pm-4.30pm.

The forum promises an in-depth look at the proposed access standard and its ability to deliver inclusive, cost effective homes both now and for the future. As the consultation period approaches, it will be critical to assess the full impact of the proposed approach.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Richard Harral, Principal Architect for the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG)
  • Julia Park, architect and Head of Housing Research at Levitt Bernstein (seconded to DCLG to help with the review of housing standards)
  • David Bonnett, Chair of CAE.

Discussion themes will include:

  • key features of the proposed new standards
  • the investment case for accessible housing
  • why access matters – the householder’s perspective
  • how housing standards can enable delivery of health and social care services
  • Habinteg warmly invites delegates from across the sector to contribute to the debate. This will help to deliver an informed, strategic and unified sector response to ensure that the future of housing represents a sound investment for all.
