Final stage of benefits cap starts today

Today sees the national roll out of the benefits cap for local authorities with 276 or more affected households.

The roll out will affect 40 local authorities, including 24 London authorities.

About the benefits cap

If you are a lone parent or if you have a partner the intention is that you will only be paid a maximum of £500 a week (£2166 a month) in benefits even if you are entitled to more. If you are single you it is intended that you will only be paid a maximum of £350 a week (£1516 a month) in benefits.

There are exemptions from the benefits cap.
