The programme focused on using lived experience of disability or a health condition to one’s advantage in a business environment

The delegates brought and shared their personal experiences with the group and forged some strong alliances for ongoing relationships throughout the programme and beyond. With three programme days still to take place, this is set to be a pioneering programme in the area of career development.

Liz Sayce – Chief Executive Officer of Disability Rights UK, gave a well-received address which both provided an introduction to the Leadership Academy and an overview of all the work that Disability Rights UK undertakes.

The group came from a variety of sectors including financial services, DPO’s, the civil service, local government and education. We were pleased to welcome individuals from all over the country.

We would like to extend our thanks to;

  • Emma Taylor of Irwin Mitchell, who facilitated the induction day and helped us to make it possible to have a successful programme launch.
  • Danny West and Shaama Saggar-Malik for their partnership with Disability Rights UK in the development and delivery of The Leadership Academy pilot programme.

We are now currently taking inquiries for year 2, 2015-16 cohort of delegates, please contact Katrina.morris@disabilityrightsuk.org to express an interest and complete and application form.

Some quotes from Candidates;

“I felt the most valuable part of the day to be the networking and group exercises. I particularly felt this valuable to enable the group to have honest discussions around expectations, fears and networking opportunities”.

“I found it really useful getting a better understanding of what the leadership course is about and what it entails. Also getting an idea what is expected of yourself as the mentee, with regards to what I want to achieve out of the Programme and how our Mentors can help us achieve our goals”.

Disability Rights UK has now been approved as an ILM (Institute of Leadership & Management) recognised provider. All candidates on the Leadership Academy Programme receive this certification.
